Firefighters battle wildfires in Washington

Hundreds of firefighters in Washington state are battling several fast-spreading wildfires, most of which appear to have been sparked by lightning.

Fed by 15 mph winds and temperatures in the 90s, the blaze had burned about 16,000 acres by Wednesday night and had consumed at least 14 structures since Monday, officials said.

God is moving by His Spirit in powerful, miraculous ways

Below are some of the amazing things God has been doing in Saudi Arabia, where we recently heard what the enemy has been doing. It is an excerpt of a report provided by Steve Snyder from "Religion Today" ( http://www.ReligionToday.com/CurrentNewsSummary/).

"Healings and visions are bringing people to Christ, Synder said. Muslims are having dreams in which Jesus appears and proclaims to be the Savior. Christians are at first wary when asked to explain the visions, but the Muslims are persistent and hundreds have come to believe in Jesus through them.

"Doctors and nurses in a local hospital were amazed when a man who was paralyzed on one side of his body got up and walked around his room after two Christians prayed for him. 'Jesus healed me,' he kept proclaiming. Hospital staff and administrators kept coming to his room for days to examine him and marvel at his recovery. Many of them became Christians, Snyder said.

"Some members of the Saudi royal family have been affected by the revival. A prince reportedly put his faith in Jesus after his Christian baker prayed for his mother to be healed of diabetes. The baker had been jailed because he claimed that Jesus had healed him of an ailment. The prince got him out of jail and questioned him. 'If Jesus healed you, could he heal my mother of diabetes?' he reportedly asked the baker. She was healed within 24 hours of the prayer, Snyder said. But the man still had to stand trial for his Christian beliefs. When he came before the judge, the baker refused to recant his testimony and the judge decided to give him a test. He brought in five people with diabetes and said that if his prayer healed them he would let the baker go, but if they were not healed, he would be beheaded. After the prayer, the people were all tested at a local hospital and no traces of diabetes were found. 'That started a big revival and some in the Royal Family became Christians,' Snyder said."

[Note: I have other reliable reports of Jesus appearing to Muslims in dreams and visions. It happened to the mother of an Iranian girl missionary girl I know who was recently in the U.S. The mother got saved. God is moving by His Spirit and confirming His Word with signs following, just like the Bible says! As previously reported, in one "JESUS" film story from India confirmed by director Paul Eshleman, a village girl was even raised from the dead, causing her whole tribe to come to Christ! The time truly must be short.]

Scientists Clone Adult Lab Mice Process May Hurry Human Application

Indeed, one of the key findings of the new work is that a biological roadblock scientists thought might interfere with their ability to clone mice and people is not insurmountable in mice after all, suggesting that human cloning is also achievable with relative ease.

"I'm absolutely convinced it will happen," said Lee Silver, a professor of genetics at Princeton University, "and I think it will happen sooner than we thought a year ago."

Silver said he would not be surprised if a person were created by a cloning technique within five years.

While the Hawaii researchers refused to talk about potential human applications, saying they are only interested in mice, others said the implications of that discovery were clear. "If you can clone from adult mouse cells," said Silver of Princeton, "there's basically no reason you can't do this in humans."

Researchers clone first mammals from adult cells using new technique

Researchers in Honolulu have done what many scientists thought impossible -- successfully cloning multiple generations of adult mice using a new micro-injection technique.

"This is an important breakthrough because it's the first time that mice have been cloned from adult cells or indeed any cells," said researcher Tony Perry. "I think it may be true to say it's the first report of cloning clones of any vertebrate species."

Chinese scientists plan to try cloning endangered pandas

Chinese scientists hope to clone a giant panda within five years in an effort to save the highly endangered animal from the threat of extinction.

Scientists will attempt to produce a panda calf by planting a panda cell into an egg cell from another animal species. This "trans-species cloning technology" is far more complex and difficult than methods already used to clone farm animals.

Emergency aid efforts were being stepped up Sunday for the survivors of a massive tidal wave that swept away entire villages on Papua New Guinea's north coast. Aid officials said the death toll was likely to top 1,000.

A wall of water 23 feet (7 meters) high hit an area of about 10,000 people Friday night without warning, following a 7.0 magnitude earthquake about 18 miles off the coast in the Pacific Ocean.

Floods in China kill 1,000, Red Cross prepares appeal

Some of the worst seasonal flooding on record has killed more than a 1,000 people, the Chinese government said Friday. The Red Cross is launching a worldwide appeal for aid.

The flooding has also destroyed nearly three million houses, swamped 22 million acres of crops and caused more than $10 billion in economic losses across China since the spring.

A heat wave that has parched much of the southern belt of the United States is now said to have led to the deaths of almost 50 people, many of them elderly.

A prayer alert was sent to you on July 7, 1998. In the natural, the situation was not at all hopeful. But we serve the God of all hope!

This afternoon I got a telephone call saying that the Christians imprisoned in Saudi Arabia have been released and will be deported. The report is unofficial but from an extremely reliable source.

No more details, except that a Christian U.S. senator, or more than one, may have been instrumental in this.

Let us thank and praise the Lord for what He has done. Thank God also for His praying people, who intercede and seek the throne of grace on behalf of the oppressed.

Witnessing the Prophecies of Joel

I have been a part of a "praise & worship prayer group" now for a while. In this group, I have seen people including priests speak (sing) in tongues, prophets and visionaries, and witnessed an outpouring of the Holy Spirit, including "annointings" of the Spirit.

I write this to state that this is the "wonderful side" of the prophecies of the "end times". It is the presence of God intervening in our world, in a manner not witnessed to such an extent since the very beginnings of the Christian Church. It is truly a fulfilment of the prophecies of Joel that in the last days people would dream dreams, have visions, etc. This occurance also demonstrates the great love that Our Creator has for His Children.

One message that keeps coming forward is that the Father is still the Eternal Father of love and mercy, but that time is short, and that He will become "soon" a God of justice.

The most important messages continue to be "love God, love your neighbor, love yourself, reconciliation, and trust in God and His plan".

Modern tower of Babel

The other day someone made the fascinating suggestion that the Y2K problem might be compared to Babel, when God confused the communications of the world. Today, like then, the whole world speaks a common (cyber-) language, and world systems everywhere and every phase of society are dependent on this language.

That cause me to review the passage in Genesis 11 in such a light and with some modern word insertions:

"Now the whole world had one (computer) language and a common (computer) speech....But the LORD came down to see the city (world system) and the tower (one-world religion) that the men were building. The LORD said, "If as one people speaking the same (computer) language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them" (Genesis 11:1,5, NIV).

Israeli Intelligence warns of war prospects

In Yediot Achronot's magazine "Moussaf" section, July 10, Tamuz 16 edition an exclusive report quoting Israeli Intelligence sources spells out the conclusion that a potential for war between Israel and her Arab neighbors is rapidly increasing. The article blames the deadlock in Arab-Israeli "peace" talks for the growing prospects of war. And warns that failed "peace" talks can lead to a full blown war between Israel and the Arabs.

Intelligence sources claim that the PA is training a special Arab commando unit to liquidate the Jewish "settlements," at the right time and that the Syrians have finally got their hands on advanced long range missiles against tanks that are extremely accurate. The Syrians also have developed advanced capabilities to dig in and avoid being detected by the Israelis. The Egyptians are completing their transformation into a full-fledged Westernized army with a superior navy to that of the out-dated Israeli navy. Egypt now has F-16 fighters and is plotting future F-15 aquisitions.

Scientists find genetic evidence of Jewish priesthood designation

Scientists have found fresh genetic evidence that Jews who consider themselves part of the priestly class known as Cohanim really are part of an unbroken line extending back thousands of years.

In a new study reported in the journal Nature, most Cohanim had the same version of the Y chromosome or close variants that differ because of random mutations. By studying how long it would take for the variants to develop, researchers concluded the inheritance of Cohanim status has gone on longer than 700 years and maybe as long as 3,000 years or so, as tradition maintains.

Struggling to survive three years of food shortages by eating grass, bark and roots, North Koreans are developing digestive problems, an aid official said today.

Millions battle deadly China floods

As the rain-swollen Yangtze River cut a treacherous swath through central China, millions of people on Monday strengthened dikes and repaired breached banks. More than 400 people have been killed in recent weeks in flooding caused by heavier and earlier than usual seasonal rains.

More thunderstorms and torrential rains are predicted over the next few days and, with China's traditional flooding season in July and August still far from over, the worst could be yet to come.

Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy (Exodus 20:8)

In a new apostolic letter, to be released July 7, Pope John Paul II calls upon the faithful to preserve the Sunday Sabbath.

During his recent trip to Austria, the Holy Father offered a preview of his thoughts on the topic, when he urged the Catholics of Vienna to "do everything possible to protect the Sabbath! Show that that day cannot be a day of work, because it is celebrated as the Lord's Day."

On several other occasions the Pope has made the same point, insisting that Sunday should be a day not only for worship, but also for "physical and mental rest" and "the building of family ties."

Christians arrested in Saudi Arabia

Five Christians have been arrested in Saudi Arabia for practicing their faith, according to the Vatican news agency Fides.

The Fides report specified that the five-- four from the Philippines, and one from Holland-- were charged with possession of Bibles, and efforts to spread the faith, in a land dominated by Islamic law. All were laborers working in Saudi Arabia.

Newly Found Asteroid Not a Threat, Say Astronomers

Astronomers said on Thursday they had found an asteroid in a place where they have never been found before, orbiting entirely between the Earth and the sun, and warned there may be more out there.

They say this asteroid is nothing to worry about —it does not seem to be on a collision course with the Earth. But because it was so hard to spot, there could be others in orbit that no one would see until the last minute.
