Praise Report!
Via email "Mila Nieves" <[email protected]>:
My dear friends in CHRIST:
It is with great joy and eternal grattitude that I share with you the blessing that JESUS has given my best friend Nan through the intersession of the Blessed Mother, Blessed Padre Pio and his instrument of grace, Paola Albertini...
Yesterday we were led to assist to this healing service and the LORD healed Nan from an extremely rare and crippling disease. All her braces and splints lay there on the floor of St Pius Church. Her wheelchair no longer occupied as Nan ran up and down the aisle gloryfing GOD in his great Mercy!
I praise the LORD and thank him that he breathed new health into my friend. She is a testimony to his Mercy. THere was a distinct smell of roses during parts of the rosary and it was a very holy mass also. Praise be to JESUS and all honor to our loving mother MARY most holy!!!!!!!!!! God bless and continue to guide Paola in her beautiful mission of healing.
(John 14:12-14) I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
Pope journeys to Adriatic coast across the sea from war
ANCONA, Italy (AP) - Pope John Paul II, journeying to Italy's coast on Sunday across the sea from the war and misery in Yugoslavia, pleaded for an end to a conflict he called ''a heavy defeat for humanity.''
John Paul wrapped up his trip Sunday with a stop at an Ancona hospital, again turning his thoughts to war - and its victims.
''This is the worst ill - hatred and violence of man against his own brother. Fratricidal hate - that is the first illness of the spirit that we must fight,'' he said.
Pakistanis train for holy war with India
In the mountains of Pakistan, Islamic militants by the thousands are preparing for a holy war next door in India.
Last week India launched its strongest assault yet on insurgents, using warplanes and helicopter gunships to pound their mountain positions along the border with Pakistan. India charges that the militants are mercenaries from Afghanistan helped by Pakistani soldiers.
(Mat 24:6-7) You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
The Philokalia excerpt: St. Mark the Ascetic "No Righteousness By Works"
194. Unless a man acquires, through the grace of Christ, knowledge of the
truth and fear of God, he is gravely wounded not only by the passions but
also by the things that happen to him.

The Miraculous Continues to Transpire
Via email:
On my end, as I go through unemployment, I continue to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit: peacefulness and relief of anxiety, people being sent, being led to help others, etc. Many gifts are "same day", "next day" answers to prayer. God keeps telling me to "act knowing that the authority of the Father, the creator of the universe is behind you". This is an important lesson for all of us who reach out to others in witness.
The miraculous continues to transpire. One lady in our parish had a vision of Jesus on a personal matter. Another gentleman, that we prayed over for inner healing came away "in a fog" as the Holy Spirit came to heal him from the spirits of anger and bitterness. I had the opportunity to witness my faith with a gentleman who had left the church and is now returning.
The Lord works in wonderous ways, healing, comforting and lifting up as He enters our lives. Praise to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
One important message that I have received is that we need to pray individually and in groups for each of our spiritual leaders, for each other, and for our families: for strengthing of faith, hope and our hearts so that we may reflect a love of God and others.
(Acts 2:17-18) "'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.
The Philokalia excerpt: St. Mark the Ascetic "No Righteousness By Works"
193. He who does not understand God's judgments walks on a ridge like a
knife-edge and is easily unbalanced by every puff of wind. When praised,
he exults; when criticized, he feels bitter. When he feasts, he makes a pig
of himself; and when he suffers hardship, he moans and groans. When he
understands, he shows off; and when he does not understand, he pretends that
he does. When rich, he is boastful; and when in poverty, he plays the hypocrite.
Gorged, he grows brazen; and when he fasts, he becomes arrogant. He quarrels
with those who reprove him; and those who forgive him he regards as fools.

Utilities pose biggest worldwide Y2K threat
(IDG) -- Electrical power losses may create more havoc than other year 2000-based failures, although in developed countries most outages may be localized and may not last long, according to Y2K reports and Y2K authorities worldwide.
People depend more worldwide on a ready supply of electricity than on any other resource. And sustained power losses could affect local food supplies, medical care, the ability to get money from banks, financial market transactions, fresh water, access to accurate information, manufacturing, and transportation, among other industry segments.

Our Lady of Emmitsburg Message Through Gianna Talone Sullivan
at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Emmitsburg, MD May 27, 1999
My dear little children, praise be Jesus!
Is not love the one virtue which combines all the other virtues to reflect
holiness. You can love one another unconditionally and seek to help those
in need. It is the greatest gift and the one virtue which reveals the truth
of the incentives in your heart. You cannot say you love unconditionally
if you are unkind, do not bear patiently wrongs against you, do not help
those in need, or if you take joy in other's failings.
Love rejoices in salvation and seeks good things for all people. If love dwells in you to its fullest capacity, you will not be selfish or jealous of others because the treasures of your heart will rest in God, not in the world. That is not to say you will not be tested or tempted. You will be purified and evil must be uprooted from your hearts.
Do not entertain evil thoughts. Seek to live a pure life and embrace love. Your reward will be great in heaven and will be in proportion to how much you love. The more you endure with love the greater your reward for all eternity will be with Jesus.
I love you, little children, and I bless you in the name of My Son, your Savior. I take your petitions to Him. Peace be with you. Thank you for responding to My call. AD DEUM.
The Philokalia excerpt: St. Mark the Ascetic "No Righteousness By Works"
192. The self-indulgent are distressed by criticism and hardship; those who
love God by praise and luxury.

'Impossible to Talk Peace With Bombs Falling'
By Viktor Chernomyrdin
...Moreover, the new NATO strategy, the first practical instance of which we are witnessing in Yugoslavia, has led to a serious deterioration in Russia-U.S. contacts. I will be so bold as to say it has set them back by several decades. Recent opinion polls back this up. Before the air raids, 57 percent of Russians were positively disposed toward the United States, with 28 percent hostile. The raids reversed those numbers to 14 percent positive and 72 percent negative. Sixty-three percent of Russians blame NATO for unleashing the conflict, while only 6 percent blame Yugoslavia.
...The world has never in this decade been so close as now to the brink of nuclear war.
... I appeal to NATO leaders to show the courage to suspend the air raids, which would be the only correct move. It is impossible to talk peace with bombs falling. This is clear now. So I deem it necessary to say that, unless the raids stop soon, I shall advise Russia's president to suspend Russian participation in the negotiating process, put an end to all military-technological cooperation with the United States and Western Europe, put off the ratification of START II and use Russia's veto as the United Nations debates a resolution on Yugoslavia.
On this, we shall find understanding from great powers such as China and India. Of this, I am sure.
Teen-ager walks out of graduation prayer, into trouble
No one was supposed to pray at Northern High School's graduation. Student Nick Becker, the American Civil Liberties Union and the state attorney general's office had persuaded Calvert County officials to observe 30 seconds of silence instead.
The prayer began, nevertheless. Becker walked out, and when he tried to go back in, police threatened to arrest him.

Universal eschatology: Humanity on the Journey to the Father
The Pope said that, in order to reflect on human destiny, "it is essential to refer to Exodus with its orientation towards entry into the promised land," and its revelation of God's salvific action.
The Holy Father recalled that "during the exile, the prophets foretold a new Exodus," that "God will not only bring together His scattered people, but will transform the heart of each one," and create a new alliance.
"The resurrection of Christ, His ascension and the announcement of His return have shed a new light on our final end. ... Jesus says: 'I go to prepare a place for you. And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am, you may be also.'"
The Pope recalled that we do not know when the end of time will occur. For this reason, "we must patiently await the coming of the resurrected Jesus. ... Anticipation of the final event must be lived in serene hope, committing oneself in the present moment to building the kingdom which Christ will hand over to the Father at the end of time."
He concluded: "Consequently we must remain convinced that our 'commonwealth is in heaven and from it we await a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.' For here we have no lasting city."

India begins worshipping AIDS goddess
A temple consecrated to a new god, the deity of AIDS, has been established in a southern state of India. The temple, dedicated to "the goddess of AIDS", in Karnataka, was set up by a schoolteacher who was moved by the plight of an ostracised couple who died for want of medical treatment.
The deity is a half-man, half-woman figure painted on stone with the words Human Immuno-deficiency Virus written on the head.
The pillars of the temple bear awareness messages and people come to offer worship for the cure and prevention of the disease. The teacher says there was initial opposition from Hindu traditionalists but villagers from nearby areas have requested him to set up similar shrines.
Pope John Paul II's Message For World Mission Sunday 1999
The Church is missionary in order to proclaim untiringly that God is Father, filled with love for all mankind. Every individual and all nations search, at times even unconsciously, for the mysterious face of God which however is revealed to us solely by His only Son, who is one with the Father. (cfr Jn 1,18) God is "the Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ" and "he desires that all mankind are saved and come know the truth." (1 Tim 2,4) Those who accept his grace discover with amazement that they are children of the one Father and therefore feel they owe it to all people to proclaim salvation.
In the contemporary world many people, however, fail to recognize the God of Jesus Christ as Creator and Father. Some, at times through the fault of believers, choose to be indifferent or atheist; others still, cultivating a vague sort of religious feeling, have built a God in their own image and likeness; others again consider Him to be totally out of reach.
It is the duty of believers to proclaim and testify that while he "dwells in unapproachable light" (1 Tim 6,16), the heavenly Father in his Son, who was born of the Virgin Mary, died and is risen, has made himself near to all human beings, and made them capable of "responding to him, knowing him and loving him." (cfr CCC 52)
(Mat 24:14) And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
The Philokalia excerpt: St. Mark the Ascetic "No Righteousness By Works"
189. God, who sees everything, rewards at their proper value not only our
actions but also our voluntary thoughts and purposes.

"We have a sure way to know if a prophecy is from the Father, and that is to ASK HIM. This prophecy is not aimed at unbelievers, but at Christians. If you are amazed at the scope of this or any other prophecy, then you should ask the Father if it is from Him, and what He means by it. There is nothing wrong with wondering, and seeking out the truth. The Father told me tonight that any who will not ask Him if a prophecy is from Him, but reject because of their own interpretation, without asking Him and waiting for Him to speak to them, are in danger of being found to be religious, when the final cut is made between the Wheat and the Tares. This final phase is very close. From the Holy Spirit, I feel determined to not give one iota of ground to these religious, who would leave Jesus out, and have their own religious rules in the place of a living Jesus, who is the vine. If we get disconnected from Him - and He is alive and speaks! - then we are in serious danger, and we are not worthy to be a part of His obedient army, with which He will contend with Satan in the days to come. He will pour out His Spirit only on those who desire His will and His opinion enough to come to Him to learn what it is. When He does give His Spirit in greater measure, all who receive Him will speak powerful words, as boldly as this prophecy was given."

Labor official: talks with Syria are Barak priority
The resumption of peace talks with Syria is a top priority for Ehud Barak, a lawmaker close to the prime minister-elect said Sunday, and withdrawal from the Golan Heights will be linked to the degree of peace offered.
Close political associates said Barak will base his Syria policy on a deal in which Israel will link the degree of its withdrawal to the degree of normalization and trade that Damascus agrees to.

My dear little children, praise be Jesus!
Little ones, pray for the gifts of the Holy Spirit and be open to receive them with gentle, accepting hearts. The Holy Spirit will enlighten you and He will help you in your quest for truth. It is the spirit which raises you to the heights to become like Jesus in every way. You can be love. You can be mercy. You can be one with God.
My Son left you a great gift when He joined the Father in heaven, and the power of the Holy Spirit is God Himself who penetrates every source of life. He is present everywhere and rests in those who desire to know truth and become love. You are invited not only to become like Jesus but to be Jesus in every way in the spirit of love, mercy and truth. The Spirit is the teacher and consoler and He will fulfill in you all His plans.
Pray, little children, for the great gifts of the Holy Spirit. You can overcome all things with joy. You will no longer seek things for yourself but will seek to serve God and attain all things in Him until you become Him in all ways.
I love you, little children, with a motherly love. Be Jesus through the Holy Spirit. I take your petitions to Him. Peace to you.
Thank you for responding to My call. AD DEUM.

Report: Panel to recommend some federal funding of human embryo research
A presidentially appointed ethics panel has decided to recommend that the federal government begin paying for some research on human embryos, The Washington Post reported in Sunday editions.
A draft report of the decision to be announced next month concludes that the moral cost of destroying embryos in research is outweighed by the social good that could come from the studies, the newspaper said.
Citing the report and interviews with panel members and others, the Post said the commission will recommend that rules be drafted to allow federally financed researchers to conduct studies on leftover embryos from fertility clinics if the embryos were no longer wanted by the parents who conceived them.
Hurricane forecasters predict unusually active season
Meteorologists are urging residents of the Caribbean, Central America and the southern U.S. coast to brace for an unusually large number of hurricanes in the coming months.
"It's going to be a much more active season than usual," said Eric Willingford, research meteorologist at Florida State University in Tallahasee.
In the typical hurricane season, there are 10 "named" storms -- either tropical storms or hurricanes. But this year there may be 50 percent more than ususal, according to some forecasts.
William Gray, meteorologist with Colorado State University, has forecast 14 such storms in the coming season -- including nine hurricanes.

Syria urges Israel to resume talks with it and Lebanon
Syria told Israel's new prime minister Friday it was ready to resume peace talks and urged him to negotiate simultaneously with Lebanon.
''A commitment from Barak's government would, no doubt, give Syrian-Israeli talks a fruitful start and would help to find a solution,'' the radio said. Syria has nearly 35,000 soldiers in Lebanon and is the major power broker in the country.
Barak, who was elected Monday, has pledged to withdraw Israeli troops from Lebanon within a year. Israel has occupied a zone of southern Lebanon since 1985 as a buffer against guerrilla attacks on its northern towns.
Talks on Kosovo in Moscow hit snag
Russia's mediation efforts for Kosovo appeared to hit a snag Friday when Moscow's top envoy for the conflict abruptly canceled meetings with foreign officials after days of talks produced no major advances.
Meanwhile, envoys from the seven top industrialized nations and Russia held fresh talks in Germany on a Kosovo peace plan Friday, but reportedly made scant progress.
Beijing bans Navy visits in Hong Kong
China has banned U.S. warships from visiting Hong Kong in May and June because of ''current circumstances,'' China's foreign ministry office in the territory said Friday.
Though officials did not offer a clear explanation, the ban was apparently a fallout from NATO's accidental bombing of the Chinese Embassy in the Yugoslav capital of Belgrade earlier this month.

Paralyzed woman dies after winning euthanasia fight
Paralyzed shooting victim Georgette Smith died Wednesday after her life-supporting ventilator was disconnected under a court order she had sought. Smith, 42, was paralyzed from the neck down by a bullet allegedly fired by her mother.
Her death cleared the way for charges against her mother, Shirley Egan, to be upgraded from attempted murder to first-degree murder, which carries a possible death sentence.
Smith had to sue the medical rehabilitation center in order to win her right to die. A civil court judge, Richard Conrad, ruled in her favor Tuesday.
"Ms. Smith has made a difficult choice, a choice which she has a right to make," Conrad said. "This court has found that she is competent to make that choice."
Planes delayed as skies turn violent
Summer arrived early Wednesday in a violent way: Hailstones fell from Davie to Miami Metrozoo and lightning knocked out airport radar and delayed hundreds of travelers in Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
No injuries were reported, but three planes were damaged at Miami International Airport. Runways were temporarily closed while crews repaired holes from lightning. More than 50 thunder bolts were observed at the airport. Lightning struck a computer card in radar equipment near MIA about 2:30 p.m. The damage knocked out the system that tracks planes within 60 miles.

Latest Atrocity From the 'Culture of Death'
My state (Rhode Island) has recently passed legislation requiring that all children entering kindergarten and 7th grade be vaccinated with the new chicken pox vaccine. I know that many other states have also passed similar laws. This vaccine is grown in cells which were taken from deliberately aborted babies. The Center for Disease Control confirms this: http://www.cdc.gov/nip/vacsafe/vaccinesafety/questions/fetalcell.htm.
More info: http://user.mc.net/dougp/pox.htm
Initially, it would seen to me that there is no way that we could avail ourselves of such a product. Since it is merely a matter of convenience, not necessity, for the vaccine's manufacturer (Merck Pharmaceuticals) to use these cells, and since they could just as easily use animal cells as a medium in which to grow the vaccine, perhaps you could help me spread the word about this latest atrocity from the 'culture of death'.

Albright Urges Israeli Pullback
Before the polls closed, Albright called anew for implementation of accords with the Palestinian Authority that would have Israel pull back on the West Bank. After a long and frustrating stalemate, Albright also set as a U.S. goal peace talks on ``an invigorated track'' between Israel and Syria and Lebanon.
Albright, in a joint news conference with visiting King Abdullah of Jordan, said, ``We want to see a comprehensive peace process go forward.''

Commentary on the Israeli elections
The Bible has, in perhaps the greatest example of God's foreknowledge of human history, accurately predicted the important events that would occur in the history of the Jewish people. The rejection of Messiah, the diaspora, and the return to the land of Israel were all forecasted centuries in advance of their occurence. Now that the Jewish people have returned to the Promised Land, there is no Scriptural support, to my knowledge, for another diaspora or expulsion.
The Likud party, led by Netanyahu, has fought tooth and nail to prevent the handing over of Jewish land to the Palestinians. Though this would in fact appear to be the appropriate action for a Torah-Observant nation, Netanyahu has had tremendous opposition from the secular Israelis. As a result of significant maneuvering, and campaign assistance provided directly and indirectly by the Clinton adminstration, it appears that the Labor party headed by Barak will emerge victorious from today's elections.
This victory by Barak is likely to accelerate the fulfillment of the remaining Biblical prophecies with regards to the Jewish nation. It almost appears that Netanyahu's miraculous last minute victory in the last election served only to delay the turnover of Jewish land until the appropriate moment in God's timetable could be reached. Now that that moment has arrived, the "peace" process initiated by the prior Labor administration headed by Rabin and Peres can reach it's culmination.
The cry of "Peace and Safety" prophesied in 1 Th 5:3 is certainly not far off. Sadly the subsequent destruction also predicted by this verse will follow closely behind.
(Psa 122:6) Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May those who love you be secure.

St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Phoenix, AZ
MAY 10, 1999
My dear ones, I come to you this night to remind you that I am always with you. My dear ones, I tell you again, do not be afraid. I am with you. I have sent to you from My Father, Our Holy Spirit. There is nothing, My dear ones, that the world can do to you if you are with Me in My Father's hands. Keep close to My heart as the battle rages.
Know that My peace is with you and remember that I am your strength. I am your way to the Father. My dear ones, I come this night also to comfort you. Rest within My Heart. I say to you again, do not let your heart be troubled. I bring My peace to you.
Be joyful, My dear ones. You are living My Paschal Mystery, the mystery which ends not with death, but with new life. I bless you this night with My mercy which heals your weary soul. Be invigorated with My joy. I am always with you.

New method uses sperm to gene-engineer animals
Researchers who made headlines last year by cloning the first mice said on Thursday they had developed a new way to genetically engineer animals using sperm.
In the latest experiment they took this research a step further, freeze-drying mouse sperm, mixing them with DNA from another species, and injecting the mixture into mouse eggs. They then put these eggs into female mice using standard techniques for making test-tube babies in animals and humans.
In this case they used genes that make jellyfish glow green. It made it easy to look for the genes in the resulting baby mice -- they just put them under an ultraviolet light to see if their skin glowed green.
"It's the most amazing thing. It was absolutely fantastic to see these little mice glowing green,'' Perry said in a telephone interview.

I'm sure you are familiar with Edgar Cayce the Virginia Beach "psychic". From what I've read of his life he professed to be a Christian but I have to question where he got some of his information. My point is Cayce claimed that Atlantis existed at one time and was a very advanced civilization actually superior to ours in technology until a war destroyed all traces. One of the things Cayce claims the people of Atlantis were involved in was genetic manipulation of life forms, specifically animals. Eventually they started experimenting with human animal hybrids. They messed up God's natural order to the point it brought about their downfall. Whether this story is fantasy, fact or something else beyond our knowledge I can't help but see the parallels with the way our own society is headed.
Another unrelated thought concerns our modern day tower of Babel. If there ever was a universal language created it has to be that of computer code. If things were to continue as usual (which I don't think they will ) there would soon come a day when software would be available to instantly translate a foreign language into that of the recipient. With the advent of the WWW such a development would attempt to undo what God has done in separating language.
Since, to my knowledge, God has not changed, we appear to be entering areas we may have no right to be in.
(Gen 11:6-8) The LORD said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other." So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city.

The End Times- A Vision by Paul Cain
Paul has had several specific burdens and prophetic expectations for the Body of Christ today and in the days to come. He has had reoccurring visions concerning the end times, which he believes are rapidly approaching. About 30 years ago the Lord gave Paul a vision that has occurred to Paul more than 100 times and still reoccurs to this day.
It is a vision of the last days when sports stadiums all over the United States are filled with thousands of people. In this vision, people are being healed and miracles are happening to thousands in the name of Jesus Christ. People are turning to the Lord in droves and the whole nation is in revival. It seemed the whole earth was turning to Christ.
Television news reporters are broadcasting stories of resurrections and miracle healings. None of the secular reporters could get near the men on the platform. They did not know who the men were. Paul described them as "almost faceless men." He hears a TV anchorman saying, "There are no sporting events to report tonight because all the stadiums, ball parks and arenas are being used for large revival meetings and are filled with people crying, ''Jesus is Lord, Jesus is Lord."
In these visions, Paul saw these men minister for three days and nights without food, water or change of clothing. Supernatural strength enabled them to continue for these long periods. In the vision, Paul is standing at the crossroads of life and sees a billboard that says, "Joel's army now in training." People are being trained to walk in obedience to Jesus. They have learned patience and endurance, have the power of God and having done all, they know how to stand against the enemy.
They will have the mind of Christ," Paul said. "They will partake of the heavenly calling and be a new breed, God's dread champions." Those ministries will be filled with such passion for Jesus and the power of the Spirit that the host of darkness will dread their impact.
Paul said in the midst of the Laodicean church age of lethargy and apathy, that God was preparing in hiddenness an army to pull down enemy strongholds, and go forth in the power of God and have pure and undefiled religion.
"He's going to do this with a people who have stripped themselves and separated themselves from the world, the flesh and the devil," Paul said. "They will realize the end time is here and that things are in a mess and things at the end time are different. Just as it required total sacrifice on the part of the disciples to begin this thing, it will require an equal commitment from us to complete the task in the end times. Joel's mighty army, as described in Joel Ch. 2 is the army of God - not a wicked army, as some have thought. They are the ones with 'feet of iron not mixed with clay', with the wisdom of God alone, not imitators of other men of God. Some of the superstars of the Church will fall. The Lord will have an army of holy anointed vessels to usher in His kingdom so that no one man can take credit for it. It will be to the glory of God alone."

Pope's Rumanian Visit Opens Path To Union With Orthodox
According to Archbishop Perisset, who was one of the architects of this trip, first as secretary of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, and later as Apostolic Nuncio, "the visit surpassed all expectations, because it has shown concretely that the Pope, the first person responsible for the unity of the Church, brought thousands of faithful together around Christ -- both Catholic and Orthodox --, in two important liturgical celebrations."
Perisset summarized the visit in three words: "joy, hope and unity." Joy, because "the Pope has been welcomed as the messenger of hope that Rumania so very much needs, because of the difficult socio-economic conditions." Hope, especially for ecumenism, "because the presence of the Pope in a country of an Orthodox majority is proof that the doors of the path toward unity are wide open." Unity, because we have seen the Catholic and Orthodox leaders "talk and pray together for reconciliation."
Pope Reflects On Historic Trip To Romania
Speaking of the trip as a "historic opening," the Pope said that he could still vividly recall the "lively emotions" that he experienced as the first Pontiff to travel to a predominantly Orthodox land. The visit was "a particularly significant sign on the road to unity" among Christians, he said. It offered "an opportunity to realize the essential aspects of Peter's ministry," he added.
New Anglican-Catholic Statement On Papal Authority
A joint Catholic-Anglican commission has published a new 40-page statement on authority in the Church, suggesting a possible common understanding of episcopal collegiality and the primacy of the Pope.
The document states that both Catholics and Anglicans recognize the need for "the universal primacy exercised by the Bishop of Rome," while also noting that this power must be exercised "in collegial association with the other bishops." The ARCIC statement also emphasizes the importance which both Catholics and Anglicans place on adherence to an apostolic tradition. That tradition has "a radically missionary element," the statement continues, and in bringing the message of the Gospel to all nations the Church must embrace "legitimate diversity" among the local churches. It is in maintaining fidelity to the Gospel, and in discerning the truths communicated by the Holy Spirit, ARCIC says, that the Pope exercises his "specific ministry of universal primacy." In this context, the document says, the Pope's role should be seen as "a gift to be received by all the churches."

Safe in the Father's Arms
The Father's love for you, and for all of us who love Him, is not lessened one whit by the judgment that He must mete out to this nation. Oh, if only the whole world had not become Nineveh, and we in this nation could have been a light for Him! Instead, it remains for His faithful Remnant, to hold up the truth. We should have all repented long ago. The glorious end to all this dark and painful travail, will be Jesus, our beloved, here upon the earth. May we all remain faithful, and bold, and full of wisdom from the Holy Spirit, as we continue to serve Him as the struggle continues, until He returns. May Jesus, whose heart is full of grief over the state of the earth, be consoled by our love, and our obedience to Him, as we follow His leading by His Spirit.
The Father told me recently that the Dry Bones (Ezekiel 37) are gathered together, which is the first half of the prophecy with Ezekiel. The Father said that He has almost completed the separation of the tares and the wheat, which is all He is waiting for before He completes the second half of the prophecy, and sends His Spirit to enter the army. The tares are the religious, and the wheat are those who know Jesus, and hear Him, and are obedient to His Spirit. The tares are being culled out, and then the army - the dry bones - will be complete in His eyes. Then we, and the heavenly host which accompanies us, shall go wherever He leads us, and say what He gives us to say, with power.

Russian envoy flies to China to discuss Kosovo mediation
Russia's envoy for Kosovo headed for China today for talks on the bombing of the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade and ways to end the crisis over Kosovo.
The decision to send envoy Viktor Chernomyrdin came after President Boris Yeltsin spoke by phone with his Chinese counterpart, Jiang Zemin, Russian officials said. Few details were given on their conversation.
''The leaders of both states discussed in detail the situation in Yugoslavia and its further aggravation due to NATO's barbaric action, which caused casualties among Chinese citizens who served in Belgrade,'' said a statement from Yeltsin's office.
Excerpt from a vision received by Brother Dumitru Duduman on April 22, 1996.
A pair of binoculars was handed to me, and I was told to look through them. "Stand there, don't move, and look," he continued. "You will see what they are saying, and what they are preparing for America."
As I was looking, I saw a great light. A dark cloud appeared over it. I saw the president of Russia, a short, chubby man, who said he was the president of China, and two others. The last two also said where they were from, but I did not understand. However, I gathered they were part of Russian controlled territory.
The men stepped out of the cloud.
The Russian president began to speak to the Chinese one. "I will give you the land with all the people, but you must free Taiwan of [from] the Americans. Do not fear, we will attack them from behind."

Pope John Paul II and Romania's Orthodox Christian patriarch combined their moral authority Saturday in a joint appeal for an end to the Kosovo conflict, condemning both forced expulsions and "murderous bombings."

China calls U.N. Security Council meeting after Chinese Embassy struck in Belgrade
The U.N. Security Council met in emergency session early Saturday following the bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade, as China's U.N. ambassador, Qin Huasan, demanded that NATO stop its military action in Yugoslavia "to avoid further humanitarian disaster."
Following a closed-door session, the U.N. expressed "shock and concern" over the damage to the Chinese embassy, and called for a NATO investigation.
Compared with U.S., Milosevic is `a lesser evil'
Moscow -- Russian envoy Viktor Chernomyrdinmet with President Clinton this week, but to no avail. NATO continued bombing Yugoslavia. In Russia, most people believe that compared with the United States, Slobodan Milosevic represents a lesser evil.
Milosevic's country is small, and so is his army. Outside the Balkans he cannot threaten anyone. The United States, by contrast, is able to bomb anyone it likes, when it likes -- on any pretext or none at all.
Milosevic acts brutally, but his behavior usually can be predicted, and consequently he can be restrained and controlled. But the Clinton administration is thoroughly unpredictable. It does not take into account the possible consequences of its own actions. It makes moves that harm not only its enemies but also its friends (for example, the Kosovo Albanians and the pro-American regimes in the Balkans), and even the United States itself.
Pope, Romanian patriarch preach unity
In the first visit by a Roman pontiff to a mainly Orthodox Christian country in nearly 1,000 years, Pope John Paul II and Romania's Orthodox patriarch stood shoulder-to-shoulder Friday in a remarkable show of unity.
Not since the Great Schism of 1054, when the Eastern church definitively split from Rome, had a Roman Catholic pontiff made such a trip.
"The second millennium of Christian history began with a painful wound for the unity of the church," the patriarch said. "It is ending now with a positive sign ... a sincere effort by Christian churches to heal that wound."
Priests and lay people alike, he later told reporters, "are awaiting signs of unity. We must go ahead."

The Legion's national executive committee unanimously adopted a resolution Wednesday calling for all U.S. soldiers, pilots and support staff to be removed from the region.

Albanian Mafia Steals Humanitarian Aid
Volunteers arrive in Albania ready to unload truckloads of food and to distribute aid to the refugees, identifying them and treating them in sanitary conditions. But no one had prepared them for the battle against the local Mafia.
"The workers are gentlemen, and what we need here are cowboys," Father Mario Baglio, a missionary in the Albanian city of Scutari, said forcefully.
In just one day, the volunteers who were unloading goods from a truck were assaulted three times by Mafia gangs. "They were armed with knives and wanted to steal everything. The priests and religious had to intervene forcefully, otherwise the volunteers would have been robbed." "The local Mafia demands a commission. I don't give it to them, and I just continue working. We'll see how it ends."
Firm aims to clone human tissue for transplants
By acquiring a research company formed by the Scottish institute famous for cloning Dolly the sheep, California biotechnology firm Geron Corp. hopes one day to clone tissue to repair human organs damaged by age or degenerative diseases such as cancer or osteoporosis.
Rather than cloning animals, Geron said it planned to focus on growing human tissue that will not have the immune system problems seen so often in one-to-one donor transplants.
After several more years of research and development, the company aims to be able to develop genetically identical cells from a patient that could be used to grow new tissue.

Museum displays relic of high priest who urged Jesus' killing
An ornate stone burial box believed to have contained the bones of a high priest who plotted Jesus' arrest has been sealed shut after eager Christian pilgrims tried to open it to get a look.
Decorated with floral designs chiseled in the smooth white limestone, the ossuary held the remains of Joseph Caiaphas, the Judean high priest appointed by the Romans.
The burial box was unearthed about five years ago when a tractor fell into a cave while building a promenade overlooking Jerusalem's walled Old City. It was near the biblical site know as the ''Hill of Evil Counsel,'' where priests met in Caiaphas' house to plot the arrest of Jesus and recommend that he be killed after being found guilty of blasphemy.
The ossuary, about the size of an airline carry-on bag, is displayed next to the only artifact confirming the existence of Pontius Pilate, the Roman procurator, or governor, of Judea who passed the death sentence against Jesus. It is a dedication tablet for a building found in the seaside ruins of Caesaria in northern Israel.
(John 11:49-52) Then one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, spoke up, "You know nothing at all! You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish." He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation, and not only for that nation but also for the scattered , to bring them together and make them one.

"Time Has Come To Say 'Enough' To Arms!"
Cardinal Roger Etchegaray published an article in which he calls for an end to the Kosovo War and warns against passivity in face of the arms clash. The Cardinal laments the fact that until the very end of this "brief century" the "signs of death" continue to be evident.
"The last events of the end of this millennium, leave no way out. As a perfidious companion on man's journey, violence continues to pursue him to the threshold of the new age, as though it is determined to suffocate or suppress a change of direction," the Cardinal wrote.
In Cardinal Etchegaray's opinion, the Kosovo war is a warning that the hopes for peace will follow a most difficult path of adversities and efforts of all kinds.
"The lightening of war blinds the sight of the future, so that the passage into the new millennium might well turn out to be the simple turning of the pages of the calendar."

Clinton welcomes POW release, refuses to halt NATO strikes
President Clinton welcomed Yugoslavia's dramatic release Sunday of three U.S. soldiers, but his administration rebuffed Slobodan Milosevic's request for a pause in the airstrikes and for a meeting with the president until the Serb leader agrees to all NATO demands.
Clinton gave little ground, insisting that NATO airstrikes, now in their sixth week, would continue unabated until Milosevic agrees to withdraw troops from the Serbian province of Kosovo and allow ethnic Albanians to return under self-rule and the protection of an armed NATO-led force.

My dear little children, praise be Jesus!
Continue to hope, little children, for a future filled with peace and joy. Pray with Me to God the Father on behalf of all the precious souls who have suffered by acts of violence and hatred. Comfort those who grieve and mourn and do not give up hope.
Jesus is merciful and He will not depart from you. He will give you the strength and the courage to persevere during these troubling times. He knows each one of you and His Divine Mercy and compassion will save you. Meet each day in a spirit of love. Live each moment to the best of your ability with peace of heart. Please do not try to understand the ways of God but trust in His love with childlike confidence. Follow the way that Jesus, My Son, walked for you.
I love you all, little children, and desire to gather all children into my mantle to keep them safe from the hands of the evil one. Be children of the light with loving hearts. Love will silence the effects of evil. I bless you in the name of Jesus and I take your petitions to Him.
Peace be with you. Thank you for responding to My call. AD DEUM.

New Ebola virus outbreak feared in Congo, 46 dead
Forty-six people have died in the Democratic Republic of the Congo from an outbreak of hemorrhagic fever that bears signs of the Ebola virus, the World Health Organization said Friday.
"The disease is very virulent. Forty-six deaths, including the medical officer in charge of the health district" had been recorded, said WHO resident representative in Kinshasa Dr. Abdou Moudi.
A total of 350 people died around the town of Kikwit in the former Zaire in 1995 in the most serious known epidemic of Ebola, which kills most of its victims.
CDC reports large polio outbreak in Angola
More than 600 cases of polio have occurred in Angola since March, an epidemic that could spread to nearby countries and is rooted in the impoverished African nation's 25-year civil war, U.S. health officials said Thursday.
The CDC said the outbreak was one of the largest in Africa since vaccination began in the 1950s. It blamed civil war for disrupting Angola's vaccination programs and creating conditions that allowed the polio virus to thrive.
